The St. Louis high school junior varsity and varsity softball teams both had games Tuesday, April 22. The JV team traveled to Evart for a double header. The girls played pretty well especially in the first game where they won by a final score of 11-6. The second game was a close game and the girls fought hard for a win, but unfortunately fell short, ending by the score of 12-9. The varsity team was home against Bullock Creek for a double header too. The girls had good games and played hard, but unfortunately lost the first game by the score of 9-8. The second game had a better outcome than the first ending with a win by the final of 13-6.
Junior varsity second baseman Courtney VanAlstine stated, “The first game went pretty well. We had quick innings. I think the hitting was good in the first game especially, since the first pitcher on the opposing team pitched kinda slow. On the other hand, in the second game, they switched pitchers and she pitched much faster.” VanAlstine then said, “I think we need to work on knowing how far back you can go in the batter’s box and to know what it means to back up in the batter’s box. I also think that we need to work on timing the pitcher better. Overall, our fielding was pretty good both games though, but we could always use some more practice.”
Varsity player Olivia Brown commented, “I think that both games went well for the most part. The team did pretty well overall.” Brown then said, “I think I did decent, but there are some things to work on like my hitting.”
Overall, it sounds like both teams are doing pretty good so far this season. The girls are all working hard to have a good season on both teams. They were both in action again Thursday, April 24, with J.V. at home and varsity away in Clare.
