St. Louis track and field took on Meridian and Harrison in the first Jack Pine Conference meet at home, Wednesday, April 16.
Overall, the boys’ team took second place beating Harrison 80-78, but falling short to Sanford-Meridian with a final score of 53-113.
As for the girls, they finished in third place. They lost to Harrison 42-98, and Sanford-Meridian 40-119.
The individual boys’ results were: Ross Pavlik, ran a 12.39, a personal record in the 100-meter dash, and threw shot put for 40′ 4.5″; Maddox Cline had a PR in the 100-meter dash (13.26), as well as a new best of 15’ 10” in long jump; Joel Childs had a PR in the 200-meter dash with 29.80; Noah Tripp PRd in the 400-meter dash with 55.28; Landon Pestrue PRd with 2:04 in the 800-meter dash; Jacob Erskin had PRs in the 800-meter dash (2:37), as well as the 1600 (5:40); Gavin Yarnell had a PR of (48.37) in the 300-meter hurdles. Also, Sawyer Wonch had a PR in discus (102′ 8″).
For the girls, Carly Shattuck had a PR of 1:24 in the 400-meter dash, Sydney Dickman had a PR with 6:15 in the 1600, and Katie Fisher PRd in shot put with 28’ 11.”
Wonch is still seeking more even after his PR. He said, “For me personally, I am not happy with my results. I feel like I can do a lot better in both shot-put and discus. My goals for the end of the season are to make it to state for discus. The more I practice the more I see myself improve. As a team we need to strategize to get people in the events where they will get us the most points.”
Noah Tripp had a great time in his 400-meter dash. He stated, “My calf hurt pretty bad, but it was still fun to run fast in the race. It was good getting a decent time for my first actual 400.”
The Sharks are going to be back in action again against Beaverton and Pinconning at Beaverton High School, Wednesday, April 23.
