A Minecraft Movie debuted Friday, April 4, as an extreme fever dream for everyone. The film opened with record-breaking box office numbers as it became the highest-grossing video game movie adaptation of all time.
The movie was a “you had to be there” type of movie, with people disregarding the theatre etiquette to shout and cheer at every available opportunity. Reviews for the movie claim it to be a boring story, but with comedy so good that it makes it worth watching. The movie sparked a trend that encouraged viewers to clap, shout, throw popcorn, and more during pivotal moments of the movie, which ended with people being removed from multiple theater showings. Senior Jayden Dubios-Kleinhans stated, “The second that movie started and people started standing up, clapping, throwing drinks, throwing popcorn, and fighting, I knew it was about to be a banger.”
Sophomore Hudsyn Humble stated, “The movie was exquisite. It was ravishing, to die for, flint and steel, and made me feel chicken jockey. I didn’t like that there was no Alex until the secret ending. I love it overall, I loved all the brain rotted memes I heard off of Tik Tok and people shouted them every time I went to the cinema, and it was a great time watching it even for it being absolutely crap, but people made it fun.”
Blake Ferman, who watched the movie opening night, stated, “The film was phenomenal. Some have said it was an absolute joke, but they’re wrong. The movie was never meant to be serious. It knows exactly what it’s trying to be, and excels at selling that to the viewer.”
Elliot Carter, who also saw the movie opening night, stated, “It was peak, one of the best viewing experiences that I’ve ever had, but I think it was the theatre that made it peak.”
The overall sentiment of the film was that the actual movie and plot weren’t the best, but the vibe of the movie and theatre reactions made the movie an enjoyable experience.
