Testing season has begun once again for St. Louis High School juniors, and students continue with their last-minute studying.
Testing will occur from April 8 through April 10. M-Step will be on Tuesday, the SAT Wednesday, and WorkKeys Thursday. All testing will take place in the gymnasium in the morning.
One of the most important aspects of succeeding in these tests is to study. Many students choose to take practice tests and study regularly throughout the week to prepare. This is especially important for the SAT, which can dictate college acceptance and scholarship eligibility. Studying may seem complicated to some, but even simple SAT prep courses on Khan Academy may help students be more successful.
School counselor Terre Sura has her own difficulties organizing the test, stating, “College Board makes the teachers take online training to proctor the test, and you have to pay attention or you get the answers wrong, and if you get the answers wrong, you don’t get your certificate. It’s hard because every teacher has to participate in the Thursday testing. It’s just very challenging to organize, but once the test is happening, it’s over. However, it is a lot easier than when it was on paper because now I don’t have to deal with the boxes of paper tests in my office.”
Senior Rebekah Ross shared, “My advice is to study for the SAT, but don’t stress yourself out about it. Yes, it is a big test, but in the end, you will succeed even if you don’t have the highest score in your grade. I didn’t get a super high score, but I’ve still gotten into my dream school and received a good scholarship. Don’t worry about getting sick from this test. It’s just another test. I think the simple things help people the most. Getting lots of sleep, having a good breakfast, and if you finish a section with time left, take a good nap. Overall, just don’t stress, pay attention, do the best you can, and don’t be a jerk in the testing room. You’re not funny when you make a scene. Oh, and don’t forget, charge your Chromebook.”
