Not many games have had the same two-player experience that It Takes Two had until recently when the developers from It Takes Two took their multiplayer talents and created a brand new game called Split Fiction. Split Fiction was released to Xbox, Playstation, and PC March 16 to immediate praise from gamers and critics alike earning a five-star rating on Steam.
In the game, players assume control of either Zoe or Mio, two authors who become trapped inside their own stories. The two strangers must work together to escape and overcome numerous challenges along the way. Mio’s science fiction story-themed world interweaves with Zoe’s fantasy world, putting both characters in grave danger. Senior Elliot Carter stated, “The story in the game is really good and features really good emotion, which I think the studio is good at mastering.”
The game is an action-adventure video game played from a third-person perspective, requiring players to complete platforming challenges and occasionally combat hostile enemies. A popular mechanic from It Takes Two, where a unique one-off gameplay mechanic accompanies stages, is also featured in Split Fiction. Senior Carter stated, “The game feels a lot like It Takes Two, which was fun to play with my girlfriend.”
Junior Benjamin Godfrey stated, “I can’t wait to play the game with my friends. I’ve heard good things about it, and I like how the game feels like a movie while you play it.”
The studios Hazel Light and Electronic Arts (EA) have struck gold with Split Fiction, selling over a million copies in less than two days, which is an immense feat not many games can reach. Students are excited to play the game with friends and partners and have high expectations for whatever Hazel Light puts together next after such an amazing hit like Split Fiction!
