The lady Sharks made the trip to Montrose High School once again to play St. Charles in the second round of districts.
In this round, the game was down to the wire, but the Sharks pulled away in the final stretch with a six-point victory. The game ended with a final score of 42-36 over the St. Charles Bulldogs.
Zoey Clarke had the most points scored on the team with 17, while also grabbing six rebounds. Paige Luneack had a double-double with 12 points, three steals, and grabbed 15 rebounds. Another great performer was Halle Hoyt who scored 11 points, had six assists, five steals, as well as five rebounds.
Clarke had positive thoughts regarding Wednesday’s game. She stated, “Honestly, I was really proud of myself and the team for being able to pull through such a competitive and tight game like that where every bucket mattered. The only thought going through my head during the game was that I was so exhausted, but I just really wanted to win so badly; not only for the team, but for myself too because it’s my senior year.
Luneack, who played a great game, said, “Individually, I think I did pretty good other than the turnovers that could’ve been less. As a team, I think we played hard; no one came in thinking we would win, but we held our heads high and played our hardest. I’m excited how Friday’s game goes because I want us to win districts and beat Hemlock.”
Clarke continued saying, “As for the district championship against Hemlock, I know it will be a very difficult one, especially since they were the state champions last year. I know a lot of people think we are going to get blown out, but if we play our best game and break their press, it should be a good game.”
Overall, the Sharks remain winning in the district tournament, and are back in action for the championship game Friday, March 7, at Montrose High School.
