The St. Louis Girls’ basketball team took on the Standish Sterling Panthers for senior night in a home crossover game matchup, Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The game ended in a very convincing victory for the Sharks with a final score of 44-28. From the beginning, St. Louis took the early lead and only built upon their score for the rest of the game.
There were multiple notable performances from the team on the night. Halle Hoyt scored 10 points while accumulating three assists, seven steals, and six rebounds. Additionally, Kerregan Wilson had 13 points, two assists, and two steals. Zoey Clarke also accumulated nine points, four assists, three steals, and five rebounds. Finally, Brynn Saxton scored nine points, as well as had three steals and three blocks.
Clarke, one of the team’s seniors, had a couple of different thoughts on the game. She said, “Honestly, with it being the final home game of my high school career, it was a bit of a bittersweet moment. But, it didn’t really feel very different from any of my other games if I’m being honest. All I know is that I wanted to beat Standish the second time around. So that was my focus for the game.”
Saxton, another senior, stated, “I think I played okay, but I could’ve done better than I did. It was still special to me for it being my last home game because I have been playing with these seniors since fifth grade. I look forward to districts because our team has improved a lot from the beginning of the season, but we need to play our best all four quarters to go far.”
Clarke continued, “I thought everyone played tremendously better this time around too, and it was nice to see my teammates shooting more and becoming more confident in themselves as the game continued. As we move forward in the season, I hope to improve our record by at least making it past the first few rounds of districts; I know this would make coach Knauf really happy, especially since it’s my last season.”
The St. Louis Girls’ basketball team pulled away with a dominating victory over Standish Sterling on senior night. They look forward to competing at districts next week.
