The Super Bowl LIX was a game most at St. Louis High School weren’t very excited about after the Detroit Lions tragically lost during the playoffs to the Washington Commanders. However, many still attended Super Bowl parties and watched the game for the commercials and halftime show tradition.
The 2025 Super Bowl featured the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles which ended with a win for the Eagles 40 – 22. Senior Damian Rosenberger stated, “No one wanted the Chiefs to win in the first place because of the unfair treatment they received from the refs, especially in their game against the Bills.”
On the other hand, the halftime show starring Kendrick Lamar and featuring SZA was among the Super Bowl best as they played hits like “All the Stars” and “Not Like Us.” Cameos from Actor Samuel L. Jackson as Uncle Sam and retired tennis player Serena Williams as a background dancer during the song “Not Like Us” had fans of Lamar cheering and posting all over social media! Senior Lauren Devine claimed, “SZA carried the entire Super Bowl when she came out to perform.”
However, the halftime show wasn’t the only form of entertainment during the game as during ad breaks viewers were able to watch the Super Bowl commercials which have a reputation for being memorable and humorous. This year’s stand-out commercials came from Mountain Dew, Instacart, Dodge Ram, Little Caesars, and Phizer Cancer Awareness, all who promoted their products and services while managing to put smiles on people’s faces and fill parties with laughter. Rosenberger continued, “The commercials were probably the best part of the entire game and were memorable.”
Fortunately, Super Bowl LIX wasn’t what students expected it to be, leaving everyone feeling better about the state of the NFL thanks to a Chiefs loss, the amazing halftime show, and the commercials.
