The St. Louis girls’ basketball team fought hard against Meridian, but fell short Monday, Feb. 10.
The game ended up in a loss for the Sharks 42-58. This was a very competitive game being the second match of these two on the season.
The top performers against Meridian were senior Zoey Clarke scoring 16 points, four steals, and one block; Paige Luneack also scored 16 points, with two steals and an assist; Halle Hoyt scored eight points while having six assists and three steals.
Clarke had some good thoughts regarding the game even though the result was a loss. She said, “Going into the game, I was not looking forward to it since we had lost to them by over 30 every other time, but it actually went better than expected. I thought overall as a team we did great! We finally were able to break their press and never saw it again. I also think we did a great job at moving the ball around and getting shots up.”
Kerrigan Wilson added: “I think since last time we played them we really improved and it shows in the score, as well as on our faces as we played. We were more disciplined and ready to fight back even if we didn’t win, we worked and tried to keep going.”
“Personally, I think as a player I did better than I expected myself to do, and I am pretty proud of how I did. Even though it was not the outcome we wanted, it was a great game for us,” continued Clarke.
Overall, despite the loss, the girls’ basketball team still has some good takeaways from this competitive game. They are back in action Friday, Feb. 14.
