It has been a busy week for the St. Louis High School bowling team, especially the boys’ varsity team. Both varsity and junior varsity teams had a busy schedule of many games and practices for the first two weeks of February.
The varsity boys started the week Feb. 3, with a game in Beaverton where they went against Clare and won 26-4. The boys also had another match Feb. 5, at Main Street Lanes in Standish where they played Ogemaw Heights; this ended in a loss. The boys’ next competition will be in Mt. Pleasant for the team challenge Feb 15.
The JV bowlers also had a busy week starting on Feb. 4 in Mt. Pleasant, where they will also compete in the team tournament Feb, 15. Senior Bryan Wing enjoyed this year’s bowling season, and said, “I think bowling was exceptional this year. I had so much fun and really wish I had started earlier because of all the potential I had.”
Ending the week, the girls varsity team will play another game in Standish against Shepherd. Junior Olivia Lane is excited about this game stating, “I have high hopes because we already beat Shepherd in the memorial tournament, but either way, we will do our best and finish the season stronger than we started it, especially because the team is doing well overall. Many of us have had significant improvement throughout the season, and we have bonded together very well too. At some points, it has been difficult, but we as a team learned to win or lose, and it’s important to keep our moods up and stay positive.”
Lane concluded, “Overall, everyone plays together super well, and I love watching everyone constantly improve and have fun.” Though this will be the last one on one match for the girls season, it wasn’t the last game for them. The girls went back to Beaverton Feb. 10 to compete in the assigned-by-average singles tournament. Also, they have the JPC team tournament Feb. 15, where they will then prepare for regionals.
