The St. Louis girls’ varsity basketball team traveled to take on Harrison Friday, Feb. 7. The girls played a good game working hard and earning a tough win. The final score was 42-31.
Sophomore Ashleigh Devine stated, “I think the game went well. It was a rocky start, but once Halle took the first charge of the game we kind of had more energy, since we had one less line at practice the next day. After that, we started shooting more. Then towards the end of the game when Halle took the second charge of the game, we went crazy. Because we now had two less lines at practice to run.” Devine also added, “Overall, the team did pretty well. In my opinion, we worked more as a team. We could drive to the basket more, and take more charges in the games to come. For me personally, I could definitely drive to the basket more and just relax more when I am playing and not be so tense and intimidated.”
Another player, Courtney VanAlstine, commented, “I think the game went pretty well. There was questioning if we were gonna pull it off as we were down by four at halftime. I think the team overall played okay. There could be less turnovers and more layups made. We got two charges in the game which we were really happy with since for every charge made in the game, coach Knauf takes away lines we have to run at the beginning of practice.” She also said, “As a player, I feel we are a second half kind of team. We come out of the locker room knowing what we have to do if we want to win the game. We just need a breather during halftime due to only having nine players on the team. Overall, the team did well pulling off the win at the end.”
The team is doing great this season and are 11-6 overall. They were in action again Feb.10 at home against Meridian.
