The St. Louis varsity wrestling team dominated Ithaca and Hemlock at home Wednesday, Feb. 5 to claim its 10th consecutive district title.
The Sharks took first place in controlling fashion against rival Ithaca and Hemlock. The final score against Ithaca was in the Shark’s favor 67-12, and the team went on to win 84-0 against Hemlock for the final matchup of the night.
There were several wrestlers who went 2-0 on the night: Rudy Clapp, Cole Grollimund, Alex Rodriguez, Colin Kuhn, Karson Tweh, Justin Rodriguez, and Raman Frye.
There were also multiple Sharks wrestling 1-0 as well: Olivia Bartlett, Kiernan Hougaboom, Nado Soto, Laythan Haworth, Javier Anger, Dillon Downs, Maddox Cline, Drew Challender, Michael Borie, Tiger Russell, and Xander Brock.
Brock had some input after winning his match 10-2. He said, “I’d like to say that my match went pretty well, and I think it was a big win that was needed for the team to really get some energy and motivation. I think the rest of the season looks bright for us, and I think 100 percent that we’re going to win the chip, and I really like to dedicate a ton of our success to coaching and our fellow supporters.”
Frye added that his match, “… was a decent match. The kid was kinda of tough, but I had very high hopes going into my match, and was confident I was going to win. For my own goals, I’d say even making it to state to wrestle at Ford Field would be so big for me. As for the team, I would say the goal is to win team state.”
The Sharks pulled away with an overwhelming victory at home for team districts and will be back in action Wednesday, Feb. 12, for team regionals.
