The varsity Sharks wrestling team competed on Saturday, Feb. 1, in Shepherd for the Jack Pine Conference individual tournament.
The Sharks sent 14 wrestlers to the tournament and had 14 wrestlers place. This is the first time the Sharks have competed in the Jack Pine and they finished the season 10-0 in conference duels and came out with their 11th conference title in 12 years.
The wrestlers who placed first were Rudy Clapp, Owen Fogel, Alex Rodriguez, Colin Kuhn, and Drew Challender. The wrestlers who took second include: Genero Soto, Maddox Cline, Karson Tweh, Justin Rodriguez, and Raman Frye. Tiger Russell took third and Jackson Shulz, Javier Anger, and Trenton Farkas took fifth.
Senior, Farkas who has been on this team for four years had this to say about his last conference meet, “It is kind of crazy to think that this is the last conference meet I will ever be a part of, but we won and everyone placed so it’s a good feeling.”
Tweh, who is a sophomore starting on the Sharks’ varsity team had this to say about wrestling in his first ever Jack Pine Conference meet, “It is definitely different from the TVC conference, but we still came into this conference and won everything.”
The Sharks were back in action Wednesday, Feb. 5, at home for their last home dual of the season which was also team districts where they took on Ithaca in the first round and Hemlock in the finals.
