The St. Louis varsity girls’ basketball team had a busy start to the week. They started off facing Chippewa Hills at home Monday, Jan. 3, in a good game leading to; sharks win 26-19, making their record 10 and four. Then they played Shepherd at home Tuesday, Jan. 4, in a very close game all the way up to the fourth quarter. They ended up falling short at the end with the final being 34-18.
Junior Trinity Bergey stated, “On Monday, the game went well. I think that after half time we really pulled through. The Tuesday game wasn’t a great game since we lost, but we tried our best. That is all that matters. We will just have to work harder so we win next time.” She also added, “For both games, I didn’t play much but I was definitely the team’s biggest supporter. Overall, we are a great team. We just need to improve on our defense and be able to hustle more. All we need is a little more work.”
Another player, sophomore Paige Luneack, commented, “I think we played hard against Shepherd; they just came out more aggressive than we did in the second half. We didn’t play our best against Chippewa Hills, but we still won.” Luneack also said, “I think as a team we did good. We also improved on our talking more compared to last week’s games. We just need to hustle more on the court. I personally need to make more of my layups and slow down for the upcoming games.”
Additionally, sophomore Grace Devine said, “I think as a team we did good and fought hard in both games. We just fell short a little bit against Shepherd on Tuesday.” Devine then said, “I personally think I did pretty good. I just need to slow down and look for a better shot to make.”
Overall, The team did well for having two games back-to-back. They worked hard and tried their best. Their next game will be Friday, Jan. 7, away in Harrison.
