The St. Louis girls’ wrestling team made the trip to Midland High School to compete in the 2025 Midland Chemic Clash Girls Invite Sunday, Feb. 2.
The Lady Sharks were up against many other schools at MHS, and in the end, they had some great performances. Reese Horton went 4-1 placing second place and medaling against an extremely tough bracket. Tekoha Henry went 2-2, taking 5th place. Olivia Bartlett and Carly Shattuck went 1-2 on the day.
Horton (winning by 15 points) stated, “I think definitely the best takeaway from that day was teching a girl for the first time ever, but I also think it’s the fact that I won four times and only lost once that made this meet great.”
Henry had a couple of things to say after the tournament was over. She remarked, “Our team did good against some tough competition. I personally could have placed better, but I got stuck in a bad position in my third match. I’d say the one thing that I can take away from this tournament is that I need to have a better position on my opponent when I’m on top to keep them down.”
Shattuck thought well of her performance. She said, “I think overall, my performance was really good. I only got one pin, but besides that, I think my wrestling was pretty good. For what I could do better, I think there’s a few things I could do like scoring more and being more aggressive, I think that’s about it though.”
Although competition was very tough, the Lady Shark wrestlers fought hard and a few came out with top-five placements and earned medals. They will be back in action again Sunday in the individual district tournament at Montrose.
