The St. Louis varsity wrestling team was in Sanford-Meridian this past Wednesday Jan. 29, for the last Jack Pine Conference duel of the year.
The Sharks opened the night against Beaverton where they won by the score of 77-5, and they finished the night beating Sanford-Meridian 63-12 and improving their record to 24-0 on the season so far.
The Shark wrestlers who finished the night 2-0 were Rudy Clapp, Owen Fogel, Alex Rodriguez, Nado Soto, Colin Kuhn, Maddox Cline, Drew Challendar, Justin Rodriguez, and Tiger Russell.
Other wrestlers for the Shark team that picked up one win include: Olivia Bartlett, Michael Borie Jr., Karson Tweh, Laythan Haworth, Trent Farkas, and Raman Frye.
Clapp, a freshman wrestler who has been on a roll for the Sharks these past few weeks said, “It feels good to be able to win for the team when they need me. It makes me feel like I am part of something bigger than myself.”
Haworth, a junior for the Sharks made his first appearance in the lineup this season after being a state qualifier last season and had this to say, “I was glad to be back even though it was just for a void. It felt good to step back on the mat for the first time this season.”
The Sharks were back in action on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Jack Pine Conference individual competition.
