The new Nintendo Switch 2 trailer shocks students at St. Louis High School.
The first Nintendo Switch trailer was released Oct. 20, 2016. Now, nearly a decade later, Nintendo, the company behind the Switch, have finally released a trailer for an all new updated console: the Switch 2. The trailer was released Jan. 16, 2025, and every Nintendo fan is buzzing for more information. Rumors suggest the new console will feature a more powerful processor and upgraded graphics, allowing for smoother gameplay and more visually stunning games. This upgrade is expected to bring the performance of the Switch 2 closer to that of current-generation consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, making it a formidable competitor in the market. Overall these changes seem good on the outside, but students are still wondering if the changes will be that impactful.
Some students are excited for the changes. Junior Benjamin Godfrey stated, “Overall I am excited. Although I don’t really know what they are going to change from the original Switch, I am very open to anything new and exciting. The new Mario Kart also looks really good. I am excited to be able to race with 24 players instead of 12.”
On the other hand, some students are unsure about this new console, for example junior Aidan Sprage, stated, “I didn’t care that much. I knew the trailers were happening sometime or later. The new Switch will be better, because all new consoles have to be better than their predecessors. Overall though, my main concern is cost. If Nintendo wants to compete with other companies, the price of these new consoles will be very high. Most likely it won’t sell as much though. The first switch had a lot of luck upon its first release. Overall, I hope the entertainment is worth the cost.”
