The St. Louis girls’ basketball team traveled to Beaverton Wednesday, Jan. 29, for a very intense, tough game. The girls were trying hard to keep up in the first half as they were down 17 points. The girls then came back after halftime, tying the game up at the end of the fourth quarter. This sent the game into overtime where they took the lead and won by the final score 49-47.
Sophomore Paige Luneack stated, “I think the game went really well. We played really well the last three quarters and in overtime. I think I personally did pretty well too. I could’ve made more shots,” Luneack then added, “As a team, we talked more than usual and I’ve never seen us play better defense than we did in that game. We also talked more than we have ever done in the last three quarters.”
Another player, senior Zoey Clarke, commented, “I think the game started off rough in the first half, but going into the third quarter we were down by 17 and somehow turned it around and won in overtime. Overall as an individual, I think I did the best I could and worked hard.” She then added, “As a team overall I thought we did great! We worked really hard to turn things around in the second half. I am very proud of everyone!”
Also, junior Halle Hoyt said, “I think the game went well. The first half was rough but we came out after halftime with a lot more energy than we had. I personally missed a lot of layups, but it’s hard to make layups when I was getting shoved in the back. But overall I really was pleased with how I did.” Hoyt then added, “I think the team as a whole did really well. We all came together after halftime and everyone stepped up when they needed to. We also really had the momentum going into overtime.”
Overall, the girls did really well and made a really good comeback after halftime. They worked really hard to get the win they deserved. The girls will be back in action Friday, Jun. 31, home against Farwell.
