Everyone has differing opinions when it comes to music genres, such as rock, rap, jazz, country, pop, and so much more. However, we all agree that music is a wonderful thing. Whether as a wild west cowboy or a dazzling popstar, people will always argue if country or pop is better.
“I like the song ‘Dancing in the Sky’ by Dani and Lizzy. It’s pop, and it’s my favorite song because it reminds me of my grandma,” said sophomore Khloe Carr. “I like country, because it has a settling tone to it in my opinion and it is something I like to listen to when I’m bored of other genres,” she said. Khloe’s favorite country song is ‘Last Night’ by Morgan Wallen, she said the reason behind that is because it has a nice beat and it has a fun twist. Her favorite pop song is ‘Birds of a Feather,’ because the song has a good flow and the lyrics are soothing in her opinion.
“It’s really hard for me to choose a favorite song because it changes just about everyday, but the one that I find myself coming back to is ‘Blue Sunday’ by The Doors. Though I am not sure of the exact name of the genre, I believe it is ‘Acid Rock’ based on the time that The Doors were popular, and the type of people that mostly listened to them. This song is my favorite because of the flow of music,” said senior Rebekah Ross. Rebekah said when she is listening to it, she almost feels like she is floating down a steady stream. She said Jim Morrison’s voice as well is so calming in the song, whereas with some of his other songs, his voice can be harsh. “Out of those two genres, I think that my overall favorite would be country. However, it depends not only on the day, but the type of country. For example, I don’t like artists like Jelly Roll or Kane Brown. I’d rather listen to Zach Top, Zach Bryan, or any classic country artist,” she said. Rebekah said that Pop is good, and that she prefers some older pop songs over country, but in the end, she likes the feeling and story behind country songs. Her favorite country song is probably ‘Cocaine Blues’ by Johnny Cash. The story that he tells is interesting to her, and it almost has a swing feel to it. Her favorite pop song is ‘Proud Mary’ by Tina Turner. Overall, she just loves the feel and beat of the song. It’s something she can listen to everyday.
