Recently on Monday, Jan 20, 2025, President Donald Trump was once again inaugurated into office to serve in his second term.
Inauguration Day, the day on which the president-elect and vice-president-elect are sworn in and take office occurs every four years Jan. 20, unless it falls on a Sunday, in that instance, it will occur the following Monday. During the ceremony, the president will take the oath of office and give his inaugural address.
Serving his first term from 2017 to 2021, President Trump’s inaugural message addressed topics such as putting America first, military strength, and the future of America.
When it comes to student reactions, some were more negative than others. For example, junior Leia Firman stated, “My thoughts on President Trump’s inauguration were not very hopeful thoughts. I have been flooded with intense propaganda with ads, banners, signs, flags, and anything that would promote Trump or Harris. and in all honesty, it was super anxiety-inducing. I personally do not have a political standing point, and that hasn’t changed even after all of the political ads. I feel like I am going to be extremely anxiety-filled for the next four years. Overall, I am not very hopeful for this presidency. I mean with all the stuff that’s happened so far, I have no reason to believe it’s going to be good,” she finalized.
Of course, this does not rule out positive reactions. Fellow junior Alexis Hitsman shared, “My thoughts on Trump’s inauguration is that it was a pretty significant and a highly publicized event. It marked the beginning of a new presidency that’s gonna bring a lot of changes and controversies—lots of strong positive and negative opinions. Supporters of course view it as a moment of change and a break from traditional politics. I personally am very hopeful for this presidency. I am certain things will change for the better.”
