The St. Louis girls’ wrestling team traveled to Ovid-Elsie High School to compete in the 2025 Marauder Girls’ Wrestling Invitational Friday, Jan. 24.
The Lady Sharks went up against multiple other teams on the day. The sole placing wrestler was Tekoha Henry who placed fourth in her weight class with a record of 3-2. Carly Shattuck finished with a record of 2-2, and Olivia Bartlett went 0-2 against the tough competition.
Henry was critical, but also content with her situation. She stated, “My first match, I lost by one point to a girl I should’ve beat, but I just had to lock in for the rest of my matches. I lost my last one to a girl I should’ve beat, but I feel like I wrestled good all day and fought hard to come back after my first match. I could have placed higher than fourth, but there was some tough competition there so I feel like I did good.”
Bartlett, although losing a couple of matches Friday, was optimistic about her performance. She said, “So, the wrestling meet went all right for me, but I don’t think I did too well in my matches. I think a few things that I could improve on probably are to be moving more during my matches and work on my mindset too.”
Shattuck, who was close to medalling, said, “Overall, I think I did better than I did last year at this tournament definitely. I need to be more aggressive from a neutral position, but besides that, I think I did pretty good.”
Overall, the St. Louis girls’ wrestling team had some tough competition on Friday, but there were some takeaways for everyone involved.
