The St. Louis indoor track team took a trip to Saginaw Valley State University to compete in an indoor running event Saturday, Jan. 18.
Those who competed at the event were Abby Dice, Caleb Paez, and Landon Pestrue. All of these runners competed in the 1600-meter race. Additionally, Gavin Yarnell competed in the 200-meter dash, and Hayden Shattuck raced in the 400-meter dash.
This was the very first meet for all of the St. Louis racers after a long break from the fall sports season. Essentially, this was a rust-breaking day for the team, and that’s what it sure ended up being.
Dice however had a great first race to start the winter season. She stated, “It felt good to race again after having a couple of months off. I ran really well in the mile for it being my first race of the year.”
Yarnell, who is another runner that was satisfied with his first performance, said, “I think I did pretty well. I probably could’ve done better, but I had my old spikes for my event. But, it was a good race for my season opener.”
Shattuck, who competed in the 400-meter dash described that he, “… felt ready by the time my event came around. The training we put in before the meet paid off because I didn’t feel as slow as I would usually.”
All in all, the first meet of the season for the St. Louis winter running team was a success as many of the athletes had a great race in their respective events at SVSU.
