St. Louis wrestling traveled to New Lothrop High School to compete against multiple other schools in the Hall of Fame Tournament Saturday, Jan. 11.
The Sharks came out on top at the end of this tournament and were in first place as a team on the day scoring 188.5 points.
There were 10 wrestlers on the team that placed in the top five or higher for their respective weight classes. The wrestlers that placed first after the tournament were Owen Fogel and Alex Rodriguez. Colin Kuhn finished in second place, followed by Rudy Clapp, Maddox Cline, and Raymond Frye in third. Next were Drew Challender and Justin Rodriguez placing fourth, along with Nado Soto and Tiger Russell in fifth.
Challender had a couple of good matches, but also a couple to be optimistic about from this tournament. He said, “I feel like I wrestled well in my first two matches, but I got exposed in my semifinals and third and fourth place matches. I feel like I definitely need to improve on my feet.”
“I felt great about winning the tournament as it was my first individual tournament of the year. The outcome was to be expected, and the only challenge I had was getting ready and staying focused for my match. The outcome of the tournament made me more confident for the rest of the season,” stated Rodriguez after receiving first place.
This tournament’s outcome was a great one for the team as a whole. A few things can be improved upon, but that doesn’t take away from the fact the team was first and that ten wrestlers placed top five!
