St. Louis High School students came back to school January 6, 2025, and with that came New Year resolutions.
After the two weeks of Christmas break, students had the time to think about what they plan to do in the new year, whether that be bettering themselves in academics, athletics, or everyday life. Some students stated how they planned to prepare and study for exams, while others said they were going to physically better themselves.
“I personally plan to get better at poetry. Poetry is a form of self expression that people can be seen through. I plan to write more poems as well as share them with other people. I also would like to get better with pottery. I wanna get better at it because I like to make things, and if I can make them I won’t have to spend money on pottery items I would like,” said Alex Tatroe.
While others plan to get better at self expression, some others plan to get better at hobbies and increase their amount of knowledge for that specific hobby.
“My biggest New Year resolution is to learn a lot more songs on my guitar. I personally want to do it for myself and for the band. I would also really like to get a seven string guitar because a lot of my favorite bands use them and I would really like to learn how to play one. I really enjoy playing guitar. I am self-taught and even though I am told I am good, I know I can always be better so that is what I am going to strive for this new year,” senior Elliot Carter stated.
A good amount of the SLHS students do not have any new year resolutions because they are happy with how they are or they just do not have the determination, drive, and discipline to change. A good example is junior Ben Godfrey.
“I personally do not plan to change much this year. I kinda just like who I am, and I enjoy what I do. I mean I would like to get a higher rank in Fortnite and participate in more woodshop activities, but other than that I say I am fine,” Godfrey exclaimed.
A new year is a time for change whether that be in people, places, community, or just self. So far from how these SLHS students have described it, they plan to have a pretty good year full of change, ideas, and new adventures.
