The St. Louis girls’ wrestling team competed at the Gladwin Girls’ Wrestling Meet Friday, Jan. 3. The meet started at 9 a.m., and three lady Sharks participated on the day.
Wrestlers Olivia Bartlett, Tekoha Henry, and Carly Shattuck all traveled to Gladwin High School to face off against multiple other teams of individuals. Bartlett finished the day with a 4-1 record, giving her a second place finish. Shattuck and Henry both finished with a record of 3-1, each taking a fourth place finish.
“I didn’t feel so great because I knew that I could’ve done better, and that I should have won my match that I lost. It was pretty easy getting the first two wins because I just hit my bread and butter moves, but the last match I wrestled, it was hard fighting back after injury, but I fought through and won by two,” stated Henry about her matches on the day.
However, Henry knows she’s able to better herself through what she experienced: “I can definitely improve on moving my feet more and staying in a good position,” she shared.
“Overall, we did very well. None of us got under fourth place; Olivia got second and that’s the highest she’s ever placed,” noted Shattuck.
As for Shattuck’s own performance, she commented, “I feel like my performance was probably one of my best overall. I’ve never gotten that many wins in one tournament before, and the only match I lost was to someone that was really good at this sport already, so I think these matches were some of my best performances.”
It seems the St. Louis girls’ wrestling team had a very great day at the Gladwin Girls Wrestling meet. The few matches that were lost were learning experiences for what is to come in the future for these wrestlers this season!
