The St. Louis girls’ basketball team took on Beaverton at home Tuesday, Dec. 10, and was away at Standish Sterling Central High School Thursday, Dec. 12, last week.
Tuesday, the lady Sharks unfortunately fell to Beaverton in a matchup that was down to the wire by the final score of 35-33. Then Thursday the Sharks also lost a close one to Standish Sterling by a final score of 29-25.
The top performers against Beaverton were Zoey Clarke with 12 points, two assists, and two steals; Halle Hoyt scored eight points, three assists, and two steals; Kerregan Wilson had seven points with a steal.
For Thursday’s game, Clarke scored eight points and five steals; Halle Hoyt had seven points and two steals.
Clarke shared her thoughts regarding the two losses. She stated, “So far this season, we have done much better than I had expected. Although we lost both of our games this week, they were only by four or less, so they were not huge blowouts. They were just tough losses.”
“As far as what we could improve on, I definitely think finishing our layups and having overall better defense will tremendously make a difference,” continued Clarke.
Wilson believes there is room for improvement as well and time for that is coming up: “I think as a team we definitely struggled, but we are still such a young team, and I know we can improve especially with winter break coming up all we have is time to improve. We are close to teams and think that if we have a little more time we can start beating them,” she said.
Even though the close losses stung this week for the basketball team, the girls stay determined to improve their game for future matchups.
