The St. Louis Varsity Girls Bowling team had its first match Dec. 2, 2024, at Beaverton Bowl.
Leading the bowling team as captain is Gracie Lombard. This is Lombard’s third year on the bowling team her third year on varsity, and definitely not her last. “The first match didn’t go as well as we hoped it would. However, it’s only the first match, and I think it really prepared us for our next one. I feel like we are more prepared this time.” Lombard said.
The following game, Dec. 4, was cancelled due to upcoming weather conditions. The girls were supposed to bowl against Gladwin High School in Pins as their start time was 4:00 p.m. The reason for the cancellation was due to the incoming snow and frozen roads, and teams from up north were to face a huge amount of frozen conditions.
A couple days later, the girls bowling team competed at Hi Skore Lanes, where the team went against the Ogemaw Heights High School. The match start time was at 10:00 a.m. Varsity member Kaydence Heiden shared, “I really enjoyed the match! Overall, I think that I did well along with the rest of the team. We all worked well together and we really showed that we are like a family. I think I could’ve done better; however, it was a new lane for our team so it took some time to get used to. There were a few times that I was really disappointed in my scores, because I wasn’t doing as well as my teammates.”
The final match of the week was at Pins, where the girls participated in a tournament to achieve first place. Although the girls lost to the Ithaca team, they placed second and received medals, declaring their placement in the tournament.
The varsity girls team will be competing at Snowbird Lanes, Dec. 14, where they will have the opportunity to compete against other teams in their league and achieve high scores to win the match.
