St. Louis High School’s chemistry teacher Michaela Godwin was recently honored with the Tireless Effort Award for November.
The Tireless Effort Award is given monthly to support the teacher who has given the most to help the school and students. Other teachers, such as Mrs. Kaiser, have received this award in the past months.
According to student council member Rebekah Ross, “The process behind choosing the tireless effort usually starts off with a student bringing up an idea, and then it is discussed from there. For example, this month started with Elly mentioning Mrs. Godwin, and then everyone else giving their ideas, and after the debate, Mrs. Godwin was chosen.” Ross continued, “In the end, it was all the work that Mrs. Godwin puts in during and after school. She runs clubs, and coaches volleyball, and she’s working on her master’s degree. That’s a lot to do, and so we all came to the agreement that she deserves it.”
Fellow student council member Lily Wing shared, “The fact that she works hard in and out of school, coached JV volleyball, and helped the players improve during the season; how she’s still working hard at her job while getting her master’s degree while also being the advisor for rotary interact and taking them to a gala to learn more about rotary,” proves why Godwin is so deserving of the award.
Godwin reflected on her win, sharing, “I was not expecting to win the award, so I was quite surprised when I heard it, and it took me a second to register. I’m someone who likes to stay busy, but I also like to help out where I can, to help students stay involved and hopefully be a good role model or someone they feel they can be comfortable around. My favorite part of teaching is making connections with students, whether that’s talking about things they are passionate about or helping them make connections to content in the classroom. I enjoy seeing the students grow and strengthen their skills and where it takes them after high school,” she concluded.
