Ex-professional fighters Mike Tyson and Jake Paul finally fought on Nov. 15, starting at 8 p.m. While being talked about all across social media for months, nobody knew when the fight would happen. The infamous brawl has been delayed for months, causing the anticipation to bubble over.
While the fight occurred at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, it was streamed globally on Netflix. Over 65 million people watched, whether in person or on TV.
Although the brawl greatly disappointed most viewers, it wasn’t much of a surprise due to the age gap between the two, Paul being 27 and Tyson 58. But even though they weren’t shocked, many viewers had been speculating reasons as to why what happened happened, which was a Paul victory.
Some fans started to even theorize whether the fight was staged, or that Tyson had been paid off. However, many of Tysons’ fans think that claim was absurd. They say Mike Tyson is not the type to lose a fight simply for money.
Junior Owen Fogel said he believed the theories about the fight being rigged to be true. He shared, “I think Jake Paul didn’t want to lose his reputation so he paid Mike Tyson extra to lose on purpose.”
A lot of people seemed disappointed not only by the outcome of the fight but also by the fight itself. Many thought it was boring, and undeserving of the commotion before it. Others believe it was entertaining nonetheless. For example, Fogel stated, “I think it was worth the hype, but only because the promotion led to Mike Tyson making more money.”
Although some people like to think of crazy reasons why the fight ended the way it did, most people can agree that the reason was clear. In an article written by Dan Wolken, titled, “Why did Mike Tyson lose to Jake Paul? The answer should be obvious.” Wolken said, “For all the sideshow inherent in this matchup, Paul won a fairly boring and straightforward decision for one reason — because he was fighting a 58-year-old.”
