A possible new tradition has come to St. Louis High School for the teachers! Teachers participated in the teacher olympics. The teacher olympics were just a fun way for the staff to boost morale, create a little more unity and shake off the stress that November can sometimes bring.
The teachers were grouped into teams and played in five games. It was about two weeks long with the first event being Office Chair curling, the second event being paper airplane flying followed by the obstacle course competition. The teachers ended it with a luncheon where we played a teacher trivia game and learned new facts about each other. Mrs. Biehl created the teacher olympics as “a way for the staff to have a little bit more fun in their day.” Biehl said her favorite part was, “getting together with friends and having a little fun. It’s amazing what a laugh can do for you.”
Mr. Wawersik was on a team with Mrs. Russel and Ms. Snyder, who enjoyed the new activity that Mrs. Biehl created. Wawersik said, “My favorite part was the competitive spirit from everybody. I think all the teachers had fun partaking in the Teacher Olympics. I hope it’s something we get to do again next year. Shoutout to Mrs. Biehl for organizing everything and setting everything up. It wouldn’t have happened without her.” Wawersik also said, “There isn’t really anything I would change about it, I thought it was fun/a neat idea. The top 3 teams received wooden medals made by our woodshop. The last event we did was a Kahoot game that was based on some questions Mrs. Biehl sent out to us several days prior. I thought it was a perfect way to end the Teacher Olympics.” Many of the teachers who participated had a great time and are looking forward to this hopefully being a new tradition for St. Louis teachers.
Another teacher who participated in the teacher olympics was Ms. Snyder. She said,“I would probably say that the obstacle course was my favorite. I hope this is an ongoing tradition. It brought the staff together and just let us forget the stress of life for a moment and be silly and laugh together.” Snyder continued, “However, I think it would be nice to be able to include Mrs. March and Mrs. Russell a little better. Even though they were on a team, it was challenging because the office still had to be covered. I also think it would be fun to have all of us compete in the obstacle course at once, instead of two teams going at a time.”
At the end of the week, the top three teams received wooden medals made by Ryder Siefka in the wood shop. These teams included: Team one, Mrs. Kisser, Mr. Puffpaff, and Mr. Brock, team two, Mrs. Godwin, Mrs. Winright, and Ms. Cleveland (Mrs. Kissers student teacher), and lastly team three, Mr. Maxwell, Mr. Kuhn, and Ms. Degroft. In the end all the teachers had a blast and enjoyed their time competing with the other teachers in the school.
