The St. Louis varsity volleyball team went to the district tournament and took home a win in the first round of the district tournament before falling to Valley Lutheran Nov. 6, in Ithicha.
All players played with their heart and played to the best of their ability. One of these players was senior Zoey Clarke, a long time member of the varsity volleyball team. Clarke said, “I knew it was going to be an easy game, but I was still really nervous because it was the first round of districts. I wanted to keep a steady head while going into the game. Overall, I think it was a team effort for that win!”
She continued, “Going into the second game, I was already not feeling too confident because I could not find my arm sleeves that I wear every game so that was already bothering me. I also knew it was going to be a harder game, so I did not know what to expect. Now the results are not what I was hoping for, but I was really thankful to spend my last year with my favorite people and make some amazing friendships. I was just upset to see it all come to an end.”
Clarke knew the team played to their fullest but had happened to fall short to Valley Lutheran. Yet they still took home a win. Even though there was a loss in a match, being able to be with the people she cares about the most was rewarding for Clarke!
Another player who was at the game was Brynn Saxton, a senior who is departing this year with the class of 2025. Saxon said, “The first round was very slow for our team. I wish we would have started off on a faster pace, but later in the sets we picked it up. The feeling of winning the first one wasn’t as exciting as the second because of how slow it was,” and, “The second round started off with us having so much energy getting us to take the win for one set. However, the other sets we didn’t have energy and just forgot our basics. We started falling apart. I feel like I could’ve done better, especially providing energy for my team to keep us up.”
With the volleyball season coming to an end, the seniors bid their farewells to the team and cherish the memories they have made, allowing the underclassmen to step up to the play for the years ahead. They will train hard and play harder for the next season with the incoming freshmen for the next school year.
