Recently, college representatives in Michigan have been travelling to St. Louis High school to meet and talk with seniors. For example, Central Michigan University reps. came to visit at 10 am, Oct. 31, 2024.
The senior year is one of the most important years in a student’s academic career and is when students are expected to figure out where they are going after highschool, whether it be straight into the workforce, military, or college. Most students plan on going straight to college after high school, which is where college reps come in. They assist students in figuring out which college to go to in order to get the future they want. On top of that, they inform students about how things operate on campus and how classes work.
St. Louis has had college reps from Central Michigan University, Saginaw Valley State University, Alma College, Ferris State University, Montcalm Community College, Grand Valley State University, and University of Michigan. Students who went commented that the meetings were very productive. For instance, senior Kaya Munoz, who met with multiple, explained that, “I was able to gain a lot of valuable information on the application process, as well as the different ways the colleges provided their housing, financial aid, and education. If I am accepted, I would be happy to choose one of those colleges to attend to.”
Students who attended the meetings claimed they were productive and they learned a lot about the colleges and can now make an educated decision on where to go. For example, Brynn Saxton claimed that, “CMU gave me information on what they offer, and I took that into consideration.”
Seniors at SLHS are excited to get out of school and get started on their journey outside of high school, and meeting with the college representatives gave them the opportunity to learn more about where that journey might take them.
