The St. Louis cross country boys’ and girls’ teams raced their regional meet at Shepherd, Oct. 26., and the boys’ team placed fourth, and the girls’ team finished seventh.
The boy Sharks ran an amazing race at regionals which qualified the team for the state meet: Landon Pestrue raced a 16:10, Colin Kuhn ran a crucial personal record of 17:04, Alex Rodriguez crossed the finish line with a 17:26, Hayden Shattuck ran an important season record of 17:41, and Jackson Schulz closed out the top five with 20:01.
For the girls, leading the pack was Abby Dice running 20:26, Lilly Mann raced 21:53, Sydney Dickman followed with a PR of 22:05, Halle Hoyt finished with 23:19, and Annah Hess closed out with 23:41 for a PR.
Dice, the sole qualifier for state on the girls team shared, “I feel really relieved about making it to state individually for the girls side, but I’m still really sad that the team didn’t make it too. I’m just aiming to make it the race of my life for my senior year and just have fun.”
“We competed hard, took advantage of the opportunities that were given, and had our best day of the season,” stated Coach PuffPaff. He’s proud of the success of Shark runners on the day of the regional race.
The Shark boys have made it to the state meet for the sixth time in a row, and are hoping for a great finish on the day, as anything can happen at this last race.
Despite any conditions, the St. Louis state meet qualifiers are going to compete hard and end their season with a bang, whether it’s Abby Dice competing individually, or the whole boys team showing up to make a statement.
