The St. Louis boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed at Pinconning for their last Jack Pine Conference meet of the season, Oct. 16. Unlike a normal conference meet, the boys’ race ended in catastrophe.
Aside from only the first six runners crossing the finish line at the boys race, none of the other runners’ times even counted for the results. The girls’ race, however, did turn out as normal as any other cross country race though.
Why might these results be different for the boys? Well, Jackson Schulz stated, “So at the cross meet, some lady on the course told us to go the wrong way, and I was really mad because I was about to PR, and I could see Hayden at the two-mile mark. Someone decided to make us go the wrong way, even though it was a decent course.”
It’s clear something went wrong with the directions at a point in the new Pinconning course, and “… anyone behind the front pack in JPC number three took a wrong turn and ended up running anywhere between 3.5-4.5 miles,” according to Hayden Shattuck, one of the runners who ended up taking the wrong turn.
Although the last JPC meet of the season did not turn out like anyone else thought it would, this season’s all-conference awards still did; for the boys, Landon Pestrue, Colin Kuhn, and Alex Rodriguez all were first-team all-conference. Along with them was Shattuck earning the second-team all-conference.
As for the girls, Abby Dice was first-team all-conference, along with Halle Hoyt, Lilly Mann, and Sydney Dickman making second-team all-conference.
