The Shark Scene staff has a multitude of different ways of sharing the news around Saint Louis High School, including the various uses of social media. From Facebook to its very own website, the Shark Scene has spread across the social space to reach new heights and new audiences, and has even opened its own TikTok page recently.
“The Shark Scene social media page comes with TikTok and Instagram. The names for these social media pages are called shark_scene_extras. The editors are hoping to continue the idea of posting every week as soon as possible, talking about news around school and trends on TikTok/Instagram, but we ideally don’t know,” says junior Skylar DuBois-Kleinhans, editor of Shark Scene. “When it comes to any platform that I recommend, it would be both of the platforms. We do our updates regarding the Shark Scene and ideally everything about it. Our social media pages help develop the word of people to visit our website and let it be known that there is a school newspaper in the St. Louis region. Although we tend to be slow, we keep our updates as good as possible,” he concludes.
“The Shark Scene is currently active on both Instagram and Tiktok. There has been a slow start to the year, but Instagram is going to have weekly posts starting soon, and Tiktok will be posting more frequently in the future as well. It’s definitely recommended to follow us on both pages. Instagram will be posting a weekly recap of the articles that were uploaded that week, and Tiktok posts things such as interviews of students during spirit weeks,” fellow editor Gracie Lombard says. “I think our social media pages reach more people than our website. Most people spend a good amount of time on social media everyday, so being able to access our website directly through there is a great way to reach a different audience,” she concludes.
