Here at St. Louis High School, there are two popular teas that students buy locally: Arizona Tea and Peace Tea. Arizona Tea has been around since 1992. Its founders were Don Vultaggio and John Ferolito, who originally sold the beverage for only 99 cents, and their main goal was to out-sell their main competitor Snapple, which has sold tea and juice drinks since 1972.
Peace Tea, on the other hand, was founded December 21, 2007, by the Monster beverage company but was bought by Coca Cola in 2014 to connect with health-conscious consumers.
Peace Tea contains Sucralose which is a low calorie sweetener, and it also has 23 milligrams of caffeine per 23 fluid-ounces.
Unlike Peace Tea, Arizona Tea has a “real sugar line” featuring all of Arizona’s favorite flavors made with 100 percent pure cane sugar, which is being called the equivalent of tea-flavored sugar water. However studies have been shown that both drinks aren’t certified organic.
Ms.Scutt said “My favorite brand is Arizona Tea, and my favorite flavor is ginseng with honey.” With Arizona’s many flavors and low price you’d think it would be more popular, but the caffeinated Peace tea is most people’s option when choosing drinks but the Arizona half and half flavor is a close second with the younger generation.
