Throughout the course of each year, lower classmen are subject to state testing, also known as Northwest Evaluation Association. The NWEA is a test required by the state that underclassmen must take the math and reading NWEA tests in the fall, winter, and spring.
Many students dislike NWEA like sophomore Paige Luneack, who said, “I don’t like NWEA because it is very tedious and unnecessary, and there’s things on the test we don’t even learn in class, so I feel like it is just a waste of time.”
Most underclassmen will agree that NWEA is simply just a waste of time. According to sophomore Parker Wing, “ I don’t like NWEA because it is annoying and it wastes my time.”
Students get impatient with how long the test takes. For many students, it takes one or more class periods to finish one test. The average NWEA test has about 40 to 43 questions but can reach over 50 questions. Freshman Cole Grollimund shared this about NWEA, “ I don’t like NWEA because I can’t sit still and it is very boring.”
Some students like freshman Noah Fowler-Meza enjoy some of the aspects of NWEA like, “What I like about NWEA is how you just sit in one class, and it doesn’t take five hours to get done. What I don’t like about NWEA is that it’s boring.”
Sophomore Maggie Allen also shared, “I don’t like NWEA because all it does is show the teachers what we know, even though we take pretests… It’s really long… only the underclassmen have to do it. “
Although there are a few good things that can be said about NWEA tests, the majority of students who have to take the tests dislike it.
