Clubs have made their way to the Shark Tank, joining a club gives the students a chance to join a community as well as give back to the community.
The list of clubs consist of FFA, Steel band, Jazz band, Language arts, LINKS, National Honors Society, Pep Club, Spanish Club, Student Council, Dungeons and Dragons, Rotary Interact, and Book Club, and Business Professionals of America.
“Curtis Brashaw was the one that helped start Rotary Interact. He came to me with expectations and what the club would be about as well as a list of students who were interested in joining. All they needed at the time was an advisor. I like what Rotary stands for and how it is focused on service over self and if that meant helping bring that to SLHS and having students actively want to better the school and the community, then I want to help any way I can. Students can expect to make a lot of connections with other students at our school and other schools as well as important members of the community,” stated Mrs. Godwin, the advisor of Rotary Interact. “We will be brainstorming ideas for future projects, but we will soon be ordering supplies and putting together the ‘Zen Den,’ which is a project a few of our members had put together and were able to get funding for from the United Way. We are excited to be bringing this calming area and safe space for the students of SLHS and hopefully will help improve mental health in the school,” added Godwin.
All clubs that can be found in the walls of St. Louis High School has a benefactorial effect for anyone who decides which clubs are right for him or her.
“I didn’t create the Language Arts Club; it existed when I was a student member back in 2004-08. Ms. B.G. encouraged me to step into this new role. Regarding Book Club, I co-created the club in 2021 because I’m extremely passionate about literature and helping to improve American students’ literacy levels. In LA, students can expect to attend bi-montly competitions where they will collaborate with other Sharks to outwrite rivalry schools. In Book Club, students will read two novels with other members throughout the year. I’m in the process of vetting the books, but the genre will most likely be historical fiction and teens facing crises caused by war. I’m very excited to lead both of these groups; however, Book Club is my ultimate passion because it allows for students and adults to discuss engaging literature within an environment outside of the requirements of English class,” said Mr. Miller, the new advisor for the Book club and the Language Arts club.
Each club has its own unique feeling to it, and students can easily find a place to belong if they decide to. All clubs are welcoming new members with open arms, and anyone is sure to find the place where he or she knows they will belong.
