The Dungeons and Dragons club had its first meeting of the school year. Sept. 6, 2024 in Mr. Albano’s room. D&D, a Tabletop Roleplaying game (TTRPG) based on fantasy/steampunk elements of medieval times, is a game that has been running for decades now and a couple years here within St. Louis High School, with many players having joined the club each year.
Noah Bobzien, an avid player and member of the D&D club for all three years of its running with Mr. Albano as its advisor, has joined once again to participate in the adventure. “D&D is an experience, but to enjoy it to its fullest, it has to be experienced with the people you enjoy. It’s like rolling the dice, you never know the outcome,” he said.
Albano, the science teacher and D&D club leader, was the one who started the club three years ago alongside Mrs. Schutt. Taking his first shot at leading a campaign, also termed as, “DMing,” he is excited to run his first story with players new and old. “A few years ago, Mrs. Schutt ran the club. As her boys are growing up, there was a need for someone to take on the DnD club mentor role. At that time I knew nothing about the game, but the players were so passionate about playing and I have always liked other table top role playing games that keeping the club alive seemed like the right fit,” he said. “DnD is classic in-person fun with friends or soon to be besties. People like to call it a board game without the board. I like to say it is you and your friends telling a story with random outcomes due to the dice. It is always fun when someone tries to impress a bartender by doing a backflip, they roll the dice and they faceplant in front of the captain of the guard who they stole from 5 minutes ago,” Albano added.
