The world of music is very vast with millions of songs from millions of different and unique artists, but the one thing that unites them all under one are genres. Genres unite all the songs of the world under different groups such as: R&B & soul, rock, pop, rap, jazz, and blues. Under these genres, there are certain sub genres For example, there are rock genres such as Classic rock, modern rock, and death metal. The question remains however, which genre has the best music? In order to answer the question at hand it is important to take a look at which genres are at the top of the charts, what kind of songs fall under the genres, and lastly have the St. Louis High School student body cast votes to determine the best music genre.
The popularity of the music is one of the most important factors in determining what the most popular music genre is. According to sources like Spotify and Apple Music, some of the biggest music streaming platforms worldwide, the amount of listeners in each genre tell us that Pop, Rock, R&B, and Hip-Hop are the most popular genres among listeners so these genres will be what we look at.
Each genre has popular songs and artists. For example, one of pop’s most popular artists is Taylor Swift and her song Cruel Summer has over 2.8 BILLION listens across streaming platforms. With the other genres having songs like: Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin for rock with 2.8 billion listens, Rockstar by Post Malone for Hip-Hop with 2.82 billion listens, Snooze by SZA for R&B with 1.1 billion listens, each song will represent its respective genre in a vote.
With the genres and songs on the ballot, the students and staff of the high school were given the vote and the results were as follows: Pop got a total of 10 votes from 35 students, R&B had a total of 4, Hip-Hop had a total of 4, and lastly Rock came in with a smashing victory with 17 votes out of 35 students.
According to the students of Saint Louis High School, the best genre of music is Rock with a huge win at the polls!
