St. Louis High School sent a reminder to parents and students about the dress code, Sept. 19. Students have shown strong emotions about this and some have disagreements about it.
Senior, Alex Tatroe, has read over the dress code and has some things to say about it. “The dress code surprisingly shocked me. Lots of things felt trivial in comparison to other aspects of the dress code such as the two sleeves or no sleeve. Wouldn’t one sleeve be better than none? It’s baffling, really. Some things even contradict itself! I feel that everything in the dress code is fine, however it would have to be altered. Some things repeat while others should be stated more clearly.”
Tatroe also says that, “The idea of hoods can’t be up in class is weird. A student is identifiable by their face, which would be visible with the hood up unless the strings were pulled to cover the face. I think it is a good idea to have a dress code, however the ways they implement and present it doesn’t work. It is a good idea with a bad execution, seeing how it never gets used anyways.” Tatroe along with many others of students have strong emotions against the dress code and reasons as to why they don’t approve of it.
Some disagree with the dress code because students don’t follow it anyways. Others disagree because they want to be able to wear what they want and not get in trouble because of what they choose to wear. Junior, Leia Ferman says, “I kinda feel happy because I’ve been tired of seeing all these people dress very inappropriately then complaining about being cold. I think that the dress code is perfectly fine.” She also says, “I think the tank top one should be changed like, spaghetti straps are fine but you can’t show your stomach. The dress code is a 50/50 for me personally. I like the dress code, but I also think it could be changed a bit.”
There have been many mixed emotions about the rule that has come out recently as rules are enforced on an inconsistent basis.
