Alyssa DeLong is a junior at St. Louis High School. For most students, juggling homework and being a member of the yearbook committee would be enough, but she has an exciting talent most students don’t know about: DeLong is a race car driver!
DeLong said, “I started attending the races when I was a month old.” With over four years of experience and only minor injuries, DeLong plans to continue racing. Completing three full seasons, DeLong has raced at multiple tracks including Crystal Motors and Paylor Motorsports. Paylor Motorsports also happens to be an off-road race track.
Even though she doesn’t see this as a career in her future, DeLong is calm and in control behind the wheel. She said, “Racing is by far my favorite thing to do. When I am in my race seat, my adrenaline is high, but at the same time, my seat is so comfortable I feel like I could take a nap.”
Racing has to be one of the most exciting hobbies in the world. Imagine the driver’s seat of that car, the excitement, determination, and adrenaline intertwining to push one to do his or her best to achieve a goal. That’s what DeLong feels every time she enters a race.
Being nervous is one of the things that pushes someone toward or away from achievements, but DeLong was able to push through her fears and is now doing something she loves and enjoys.
