Sharky was on the run at St. Louis High School for homecoming week to spread the spirit of the Sharks around the halls! Running to get a photo with him in spirit attire would get a student’s grade points for that day.
“We used Sharky to get into the school spirit because it is our spirit mascot. We also just wanted something to make students laugh in the morning and to get it on their minds from the start of the day each day,” said Kaiser, the Student Council Advisor for the 2024-2025 school year. She added, “I think it added to the school spirit because it helped lighten the mood each morning.”
This addition to the morning routine definitely caught the attention of many SLHS students who were more than ready to get up from their seats to go after the embodiment of the student spirit.
Junior Tiger Russell stated, “I felt the prompts were fun. I won captain St. Louis and it felt good. I had the most school spirit. Going after Sharky every morning to get my grade points for the competition proves I had the most spirit.”
The Homecoming week was a success, with numerous students coming to school in their best spirit attire to fit the many themes of that week. Whether that was the mystery mania day or the Shark pride day, all photos counted and raised a grades point count for the competition.
To improve, “We probably would have announced the challenge beforehand. We maybe would have had a different challenge each day to make it more exciting,” said Kaiser.
It was her first year as student council advisor, but in the coming years she is more than ready to prepare the best events for the SLHS student body.
