The Saint Louis Equestrian team competed in the district run, Sept. 7, and placed third out of six Division D teams.
Throughout the day, both Rebekah Ross and Bethany Bowerman raced in the match with their horses as they managed to place first in the two-man relay.
Although they didn’t qualify for state, they made good progress in the season as it was their last district match. Ross stated, “I think my performance on Saturday was one of my better ones, but it wasn’t my best ride. I was still super proud of how my horse did. There were just a couple times that she was naughty.”
“There were a lot of obstacles that I faced. Riding and showing horses is an extremely stressful sport, and it can be difficult to handle the pressure that comes with it. We had faced personal problems with teams at the last meets and it definitely carried over to this weekend,” continued Ross. “However, we did the best we could. Another problem I faced was with myself. Throughout the whole day, I was in pain that sometimes affected my performance.” Her teammate Bowerman stated, “I had a pretty good performance in my barrel, flags, and two-man relay. I choked up during the showmanship, bareback, saddle seat, and reining.”
Although they faced problems in the district match, it will be the last and final season for these two as they ended their careers!
