The 2024 homecoming court votes were cast Aug. 29, at St. Louis High School, as the student body votes every year to elect who he or she wants to represent their grade.
Every year students from all grades nominate three boys and three girls to represent their grades. Then the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors pick one girl and one boy he or she would like to represent their grade. The seniors vote as well, but the homecoming queen and king won’t get announced until later.
This year’s senior homecoming court nominees for the boys are Colin Kuhn, Landon Pestrue, and Julian Orta-Vazquez. The girl nominees are Bethany Bowerman, Zoey Clarke, and Elly Starry. The winners of the junior class are Javier Anger and Abby McCulley. The sophomore winners are Merick Bartlett and Maya Massaway. Finally, the freshmen winners are Brayden Geer and Myah Sahr. All of these students are great representatives for their respective grades. Each student shows the values of the class he or she is representing.
Being on court can raise a lot of questions. The person on court might be wondering why he or she was picked. Senior Bethany Bowerman said, “I believe I was picked because I am involved and make things fun.” Members of court are known for their participation in things like, sports, clubs, assemblies, and much more. He or she often is the one who works to make school and school events fun.
The feeling of being on court can be a surprise. Court members are chosen by their grade casting their vote of who he or she believes represents their grade the best. It’s a big responsibility to represent the entire grade. Senior Elly Starry commented, “It feels very surprising but rewarding to be picked as a representative for our class.” The initial surprise of being picked can be coupled with the rewarding feeling of being known as a good representation for their grade as a whole.
The final votes for the students who will be representing their grades as well as homecoming queen and king were cast Sept. 3, though homecoming queen and king will not be announced until the homecoming dance, which is Sept. 14.
