The St. Louis Varsity football team started the season at home versus the Ithaca Yellowjackets at 7 pm, Thursday, Aug 29. Unfortunately, the Sharks suffered a tough loss by a final score of 53-0.
The Yellowjackets were quick to take the upper hand in the game on both sides of the ball; this ultimately led to a running clock in the second half. After all, the Sharks were playing the number one ranked team in Division Seven football.
The Sharks were quick to be down on themselves. On the performance of he and the rest of his team, fullback Justin Rodriguez stated, “We definitely performed not as well as we thought we would … little mistakes led to big mistakes…”
“We both (Defensively and offensively) played bad. I feel like if we keep working and practicing hard we will get stuff done,” The Shark’s center, Junior Tiger Russell said, “We also got the hardest opponent of the season during week one.”
Even with a loss against the toughest opponent the Sharks will be facing this season, the team continues to remain hopeful for the Friday, Sept. 6, matchup against Valley Lutheran, taking place on the road.
“Now we focus on Valley Lutheran and get after them and get a win,” states Russell, with a confident outlook for the future.
