Mr. Maverick Giles has taken the job of teaching history at the St. Louis High School and started his lessons Aug. 26, 2024.
With Mr. Kuhn shifting from teaching history to English due to changes within the staff, a past student of his has stepped up to teach the very class taught by his past teacher. Giles, a graduate of Ferris State University and a past student teacher of Central Montcalm High School, has begun teaching history classes here at the St. Louis High School.
“I am liking all my classes so far and think we have some great students. I love teaching and especially love teaching history. I hope to be a great teacher and help students find a passion to appreciate history,” said Giles.
His prior teaching experience includes student teaching at Central Montcalm High School. He said, “I had a great student teaching experience at Central Montcalm High School. I learned a lot from that teaching experience and am bringing some of those skills with me today. I have also reflected and gained new strategies to help students become more engaged in the classroom and help them understand the material in certain ways.”
Mr. Kuhn, a past history teacher of Giles and one of the current English teachers, is confident about his performance within the classroom. “Being able to pass on my room to him and the topics I taught was an easy thing to do because I knew Mr. Giles was going to thrive,” said Kuhn. “I would tell Mr. Giles that, “Hey, the only important thing in teaching is to focus on building relationships. Get to know your students before anything else. Then figure out how to teach.”
