The varsity softball team split with Merrill, Monday, April 21. The girls started out with a great game and won 14-1. However, the second game the girls lost 22-12.

“Our first game was a great game. We had our bats rolling and there wasn’t many errors defensively as well. However, our second game showed how much improvement we need to make throughout the season. We need to figure out a good strategy defensively,” said Olivia Anderson.

Alexis Beeson began pitching in the first game and her pitching as well as the team’s great performance of defense locked down the game. Additionally, the team had an amazing offensive performance as well. However, the second game took a total turn. During the game, there was five changes of pitchers. The girls were down 8-0 in the third inning, but then they picked it up and tied it up in just one inning. However, the Vandals outdid the Sharks by hitting three home runs. However, Anderson had a homerun in the second game which eventually gave her offensive player of the game. Additionally, Skylar Rodriguez was named Game Shark because of her defensive play. Rodriguez played aggressively at third base and pitched some as well.

“Being an underclassmen and being named Game Shark is always an honor. Knowing that six seniors are leaving next year, means that I really need to step up and show some leadership,” said Rodriguez.

The girls played Ithaca at home Friday, April 26 at 4 p.m.
