The Sharks marching and steel bands played their last performances of the year at the Highland Festival Saturday, May 25, 2024 and the marching band performed in the Memorial Day parade, May 26, 202, in Saint Louis.
Steel Band player Gracie Lombard said, “The Highland Festival was so fun because of the songs we played. Lombard said, “During the song ‘Hot Stuff’ we played it with one hand and it was cool seeing people’s reaction to us playing one handed. It was a good day because Alma doesn’t have a steel band and it was just super cool being there, and the people there enjoyed listening to our band play.”
Skyler DuBois-Kleinhans played Monday in the Memorial Day Parade with the marching band and said, “The parade went well. The band played ‘Hot Stuff’ and ‘Seven Nation Army’. The tractor the band was on was very small so the band couldn’t play the song ‘Jump On It’ because of the amount of space the band took up.
Bella Patterson played in the Highland Festival, which she thought was a success. Patterson said, “I thought I did pretty well that day. The day overall was a big success. Seeing how much people loved seeing us play was my favorite part that day.” Patterson also added how she liked seeing the people clap along and cheer the band on, she also said how this festival was her favorite she has played in so far, and she cannot wait for next year.
What a great year for both the steel band and the marching band, making memories everyone will remember forever!
