The Saint Louis Sharks varsity softball team hosted the Hanline Grand Slam Tournament May 18, 2024, and the Sharks took home the trophy.
Paige Luneack was on the mound for three games, and she struck out 25, only allowing four hits. Throughout the day, Luneack had seven hits with nine RBIs, Halle Hoyt also had nine hits on the day, and Kenadie Henry had seven hits and six RBIs.
Ashleigh Devine had a great day, and she was finally able to put the bat on the ball and she’s super happy her hard work is finally paying off. Devine said, “We are communicating a lot more and we are having a better mind set which definitely helps and gets us ready for the upcoming tournaments.”
Another first year player on varsity, Kenadie Henry, thinks she can work on catching behind the plate more. Henry said, These tournaments prepare us for the other games. It teaches us to play at our level and not go down to the other team’s level.” Since the season is coming to an end, Henry’s favorite memory from this year is when there was a “slip n slide at practice.” She thought that was really cool.
Additionally, Brynn Saxton has been a big contributor to the Sharks softball team, and has been for three years. Saxton thought she did okay at the tournament, even though her batting wasn’t as good as she wanted. Saxton said, “Softball is fun, but some advice I would give the underclassmen would be to try and involve yourself in many sports. Even if you have never played a day in your life it might turn out better than you thought.”
The Sharks were back in action for May 22, 2024 at Grayling.
